Erie Celebrates Homecoming and Veteran's Appreciation Day
Orchard Park, NY- The Erie Community College football team lost 54-0 to Nassau Community College, the No. 1 ranked NJCAA Division III program in the country, on Saturday afternoon at West Herr Stadium in Orchard Park.
It was also homecoming and Veteran's Appreciation Day for the college. Prior to the game the Motorcycle Deputies from the Erie County sheriffs office along with the Town of West Seneca Police Tactical vehicle unit paraded around the field to honor those who have served our country. A special coin toss started the game as the Kats welcomed back Nick Jones, a US Marine Corps combat veteran of Afghanistan. Jones is a SUNY Erie Alum who played tight end for the Kats before transferring. He is currently a police officer and SWAT Team member in Charleston, South Carolina.
Once the game began, the Kats defense held the Lions at bay for most of the soggy first quarter but the offense continues their struggle to mount any pressure and momentum. The Lions built a 21-1 lead by the half. The sun came out to start the third quarter and the Lions offense found their groove to put up 26 points in the quarter. They tacked one more in the fourth to finish the game.
Patrick Burns led the defense with 15 tackles on the day while Noah Bowens, Ethan Westfield and Nicholas Blake also contributed eight each.
Erie will travel to Ohio next Saturday for a 1:00 pm game versus Hocking College.
