Sonya Krezmien Runs to Top-10 Finish at Hilbert College
The men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their seasons at the Megan Memorial Invitational at Hilbert College, where SUNY Erie competed alongside Hilbert, SUNY Fredonia, Buffalo State, and Bryant & Stratton College.
In the women's race, Sonya Krezmien delivered a top-10 performance against NCAA-level competitors, securing 7th place with a time of 22:19 for the 5-kilometer course. Sophomore Mads Baird also ran a solid season-opener, finishing 12th in 23:57.
On the men's side, SUNY Erie secured 4th place in the team standings. Sam May led the way for the Kats, finishing 22nd with a time of 19:51 for 5 kilometers. He was followed by Chad Kapturowski in 32nd place (22:31), Brendan Terrill in 36th place (24:20), Eugene Bush in 38th place (24:37), and Aidan Terrill in 39th place (24:59).
Head Coach Chris Muldoon was pleased with the performance, stating, "Today was a very positive start to the season. Everyone stuck to the race plan, which was to be conservative early on and then compete hard in the last mile. Both teams are only going to get stronger from here."
The cross country teams will return to competition on September 16 at the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College.
