The women's volleyball team's win streak ended at eight matches when they split their POD play on Saturday. In the opening match the Kats defeated Corning Community College in straight sets, 25-12, 25-6 and 25-8. Emily Schlabach led the offense with 17 assists and six service aces. Charlotte Mendel led in kills with 7.
Erie then faced host team Broome Community College and played a tough five set match eventually falling to the Hornets 23-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 10-15. Schlabach added 40 assists to her day while Darion Jonathan had 15 kills and 20 digs in the match.
Playing without leading sophomore Molly McKinnon, Coach Craig starzynski said of the matches, "With Molly out for the whole day, Darion really stepped up hitting. The team played with some fire today and we hope to continue the progress."
The Kats will stay on the road next weekend when they head to Mohawk Valley Community College for matches against Mohawk and Herkimer College.
