Volleyball Heads to Regional Championship this Weekend
The Erie Community College volleyball team is looking to win its second straight regional title this weekend when it travels to Sanborn to compete in the Region 3 Tournament. The eight team tournament wll begin Saturday with pool play and end with two championship games Sunday as teams look to punch their ticket the the NJCAA Division 3 Tournament in Rochester, MN on November 10-12.
Erie (14-7) comes into this year's tournament winners of 11 of its last 12 matches. The Kats finished second in the Region 3 West Division and will look to advance out of a pool that includes Fulton-Montgomery Community College (12-1), Herkimer College (7-3) and Monroe Community College (14-3).
Erie's Aurora Davis, last year's region 3 Player of the Year, was recently named the 2021 Western New York Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She leads all NJCAA Division 3 players with a .484 hitting percentage, is third in the region with 189 kills and is third in the region with 0.79 service aces per game. Natalie Ruhlmann's 302 digs tops all Region 3 players. Setter Sara Domanowski is fifth in the region with 7.57 assists per set.
The tournament, hosted by Niagara County Community College, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
