Women's Soccer Bests North Country Community College To Advance to Region III A Finals
Orchard Park, NY -- A high powered Kats offense transitioned from regular season play to the playoffs as the Kats scored six in a 6-0 win over North Country Community College in the NJCAA Region III District A semifinals.
Britini Bailey opened the scoring off a corner kick from Jena Schelble in the third minute of the game to put the Kats up 1-0. In the 17th minute, Ciera Lundy would add another goal on an assist from Jill Spangler. Jena Schelble would find her second assist of the game, setting up Rachel Fiore to put the Kats up 3-0 in the 34th minute.
Schelble would find the net on a penalty kick minutes later to put the Kats up 4-0. A Makena Carpenter goal from a corner kick would put the Kats 5-0 heading into halftime.
“Today was a good showing against a tough defensive team. We saw some things we did well, and things we can improve on, especially with how tough it is to win in this Region.” said Coach Gary Boughton after the game. His Kats would add one last goal in the 51st minute when Ciera Lundy would capitalize on a penalty kick opportunity to put the Kats up 6-0.
Goalkeeper Gabi Gray would have two saves in the cleansheet victory thanks to stellar play from the backs to keep the pressure of the keeper.
“We’ll enjoy this for a few minutes, and then shift our focus to the Finals. Complacency has no room here right now.” said Boughton.
The Kats will take on Herkimer Community College on Sunday, October 28th at Tompkins Cortland Community College in the finals of the Region III District A Championship.
