Bowling Begins 2024-25 Season
The Erie men's and women's bowling teams traveled to Canton, MI over the weekend to begin their 2024-25 season. The teams competed in the first two events of the American Heartland Bowling Association.
On Saturday, the men's varsity team finished eighth with 5763 pins. Zachary Spengler was the top Erie bowler, finishing in the top 20 bowling 1220 pins. The ladies top bowler was Haley Benkelman and the team finished 13th.
Sunday, men's varsity again finished 8th while JV improved to finish fifth. Erie had two varsity bowlers finish in the top 20 with Lane Marlet leading the team, bowling 817 pins for a 14th place finish and Charles Buttery finished 18th out of 111 bowlers.
Maura Noonan led the ladies on Saturday as the top Erie finisher while the team ended the day in 13th place.
Head Coach David Zajac said of the start, "This was a highly encouraging opening season weekend for the men's program. Both the Varsity and JV teams were able to walk away from these events with respectable showings, but most importantly we were able to see what we need to work on for each individual player to improve on our overall performances. We are back in action again this weekend and hope to see some of those improvements take hold."
"Our lady's team has 3 returning players that we are leaning on to assist us in guiding our 2 freshmen through the experience of becoming collegiate bowlers. We think this weekend was a good start to that. We will continue to work on advancing all of their skills and abilities while we look to see their individual improvements pay dividends as our tournament schedule rolls on," he continued.
Up next, the teams will compete in the AHBA #3 on Saturday, November 2nd at Star Lanes in Sandusky, OH.
