The SUNY Erie Lady Kats belted five home runs on the day in their sweep of the FingerLakes at the North Pole Thursday Afternoon.
Anna Cervino and Olivia Ball each had two and Emma Poitras added her first of the year. The Kats ran away with game one 11-3 in five inning. Anna Cervino went 3 for 3 including 2 home runs and a double. Olivia Ball and Emma Poitras each added three hits of their own with Ball hitting a homer and a double and Poitras adding a double. Carly Fraser and Cheyenne Barnard each added two hits. Kira Kilonsky and Mik Gallivan added hits in the 14 hit explosion on just four offensive innings. In the circle Grace Szpylman was outstanding allowing only 1 run and striking out 10 through five.
Game two provided a bit more drama as the Kats came back from a 7-4 deficit to win 9-7. Emma Poitras tied the game in the fifth with a three run homer after Kira Kilonsky and Olivia Ball singled to open the inning. Poitras, Kilonski and Ball each had two hits in the game. Anna Cervino also had two hits in the contest. The Kats plated two runs in the top of the seventh to move ahead 9-7 when Carly Fraser and Emma Poitras singled to open the inning. After Poitras stole third Bella Raimondi lifted a fly ball to right scoring Poitras who tagged up for the go ahead run. Mik Gallivan followed with a double in the right center gap scoring Barnard. Bri Farnsworth added a hit as the Kats pounded out 12 hits. Grace Szpylman struck out the side in the seventh to seal the win. She went seven strong innings in game two allowing only one earned run and striking out 11 giving her 21 K's on the day.
