Erie Men Place Fifth at Swimming Regionals, Take Home Many Honors
Over the February 10-12th weekend, Erie Community College's men's team competed at the Region III Northeast District Championships held at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. While only having three swimmers compete, Erie came home with four individual titles and the coaching staff was awarded Coach of the Year selected by their coaching peers from the other teams.
Head Coach Rick Aronberg stated, "These swimmers lit up the pool this weekend. They raced against really strong competition and stepped up. Their enthusiasm was contagious and this really is credit to who they are."
Freshman Ryan Nebrich won two titles in the 50 back (27.62) and the 100 back (58.18) respectively. He also placed second in two events which were the 200 IM (2:17.82) and the 200 back (2:11.90).
Freshman Stu Jensen also won two titles in the 200 IM (2:13.64) and the 400 IM (4:49.62). He also placed second in the 200 breast (2:31.33) and third in the 100 breast (1:08.66).
Freshman Nate Setlock also had a solid performance finishing fourth in the 200 free (2:17.27), fifth in both the 50 back (34.79) and 200 back (2:39.16). He also was sixth in the 100 back (1:13.45).
"At Erie Community College, I am lucky to have an outstanding assistant coach (Vince McCarthy). He is extremely knowledgeable in the sport and works great with our swimmer," Aronberg said about the coaching staff. "The two of us work very well together".
Both Nebrich and Jensen will represent Erie at the NJCAA Championships March 1-4th which is being held at Erie Community College.
