The Erie men's soccer team traveled to Hudson Valley Community College for their second game of the season on Saturday. The Kats were outshot 15-2 enroute to a 3-0 loss.
Jeremie Kabongo and M'mbwale Mtange were the two Kats who managed to get the ball to the net while freshman goalkeeper Aiden Samms turned away 12 of the 15 Hudson shots he faced.
The men's soccer program has faced a tough road since returning from the disruption of the Covid pandemic. Second year head coach Brendan Murphy is cautiously optimistic that he is building something with this group of players.
"We will face some very high level competition throughout the year so we will have to work hard every day to continue improving," said Murphy. "If we can show progress each game and a sustained commitment to details and discipline, it will be a successful season."
Murphy's Core Players to watch this season:
Aiden Samms, freshman: very solid keeper who will make tons of saves
Jeremie Kabongo, freshman: midfielder who is very skillful and athletic, smooth on the ball
M'mbwale Mtange, freshman: defender with great determination and good skill going forward
Miguel Luzardo, freshman: a very technical player who can pass well and good in 1v1 duels
Trey Laws, freshman: very athletic and fast and will cause opposing defense problems in attacking
Erie stays on the road for a matchup with SUNY Adirondack on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
