Men's Bowling Places Fourth at NJCAA Championships
The Erie bowling teams competed in the NJCAA National Bowling Championships with the men finishing in fourth place with a final team score of 12505 pins bowled. The Kats had two bowlers finish in the top ten.
Sophomore Anthony Shaver ended the tournament fourth overall in the All-Event category with an average of 193.1. He also finished sixth over all in singles and was named to all tournament team.
Declan Stiles was also in the top ten with a 187.8 average for All-Event finish of ninth overall.
"Proud. That is what Matt and I are of the guys team after their hard fought effort during Nationals competition," said Head Coach Dave Zajac. "This was arguably the toughest pattern they've faced all year and while winning was our ultimate goal, we are proud of their determination during the entire event. We bid farewell to 5 sophomores, Declan, Anthony, Peyton, Parker and Tyler, with tears in our eyes and gratitude in our hearts for all that they gave to make the program the success it has been over their tenure."
The ladies finished with 9317 pins bowled for a 12th place finish.
Zajac said of the women's team, "This year was a whirlwind at times for the lady's team and they had to get out of their comfort zones on nearly every event's lane pattern, especially during Nationals competition. While their finishing position in team standings may not reflect it, we believe they are all more well equipped bowlers now then they were at the start of the season. We are eager to have them all return for next season and with the addition of our incoming recruits, the 2024-2025 season has an even brighter outlook."
