Men's Basketball Wins in OT
The Erie men's basketball team finally did something they have not been able to do all season, win a game in overtime! The Kats defeated the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks 78-69 on Saturday to secure the overtime win.
Erie was led by freshman guard Hugo Silva who had 21 points. The Kats had three other players in double digits. Sophomore forward Reed Samules put up 15 while sophomores A'Mage Tate and Michael Agiddi had 14 and 12 points respectively. Eight of Tate's points coming in the extra session.
Erie would lead for most of the game, including taking a five point lead into the half. The Kats came out of the break and continued to press and led by as much as ten points with about nine minutes left to play. That is when Jamestown began to mount a comeback and they would eventually take the lead with a three point jump shot that fell in with two and half minutes to go. The two teams battled for the final two minutes before Erie would tie the game at 62 with 16 second left.
The Kats would then control the overtime session, taking the lead about a minute in that they would never relinquish to earn the victory. The team had been to overtime three previous times this season and had been unable to pull out a win.
Erie will look to keep the momentum from this overtime win going when they host Monroe Community College on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
