Erie Three-Peats as Region III DII Champs!
Buffalo, NY- The Erie Community College men's basketball team won its third straight NJCAA Region III Division II Championship on Saturday.
The Kats, led by Player of the Year Ahamadou Fofana, defeated the Genesee Community College Cougars 91-73 at the Burt Flickinger Center.
The first half ended up tied at 34 after Erie came out strong, gaining a seven point lead before Genesee would get on the board. The Kats would lead by as much as 10 points half way through the first. After a Cougar time-out, they battled back to tie the game before the break.
The Erie offense came out in full force putting up 57 points in the second half to secure the win. Fofana scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. He also had 15 assists on the day. Ladji Fofana led the team in points with 24, followed by Tavien Kemp who had 23 and Tim Whitehead with ten.
Ahamadou Fofana was named tournament MVP while Tavien Kemp and Ladji Fofana were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Kats advance to the District II Championship tournament on Saturday, March 7th when they take on the Sullivan Generals.
