Kats Win in OT!
Buffalo, NY- It was a battle of crosstown rivals in the Burt Flickinger Center on Wednsday night as the No. 9 ranked Erie Community College Kats hosted the No. 13 ranked Niagara County Community College Timberwolves in an NJCAA D-II matchup.
The Kats came out victorious with a 93-87 ovetime win.
In a game where momentum swung back and forth the entire contest, the Kats were able to capitalize at the line in the OT session, going 8-12 in free throws. To get there the Kats leading scorer on the year, Ahamadou Fofana, hit a jumper to tie the game at 81 with seven seconds left in the game.
The Thunderwolves started the game by going on a 10-2 run before the Kats took a lead of their own going up 21-17. NCCC would come back with another run to end the half up 39-35.
Erie turned the tide to start the second half going up by 76-69 with just over two minutes left in the game. NCCC would battle back for the lead, 78-76, before Fofana nailed a three pointer to go back on top 79-78.
The Thunderwolves had a chance to put the game away when they hit a jumper and then drew a foul with 17 seconds left to play. One missed free throw later, Fofana hit the tying shot. He would finish the night with 22 total points and 6 assists.
Erie had five total players with double digits. Ladji Fofana led the Kats with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Terrell Brown hit for 13, Tim Whitehead had 12 and Tavein Kemp contributed 11.
Erie will take the court at home again on Saturday when they host Jamestown Community College at 3:00 pm.
