The Erie CC Kats delivered an impressive showing on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against TC3 with emphatic wins of 13-0 and 18-8 at TBD.
In game one, Erie jumped out to an early lead with an explosive eight-run second inning. The rally was fueled by a string of hits and aggressive baserunning, including RBI singles from EJ Williams, Noah Lapierre, Eric Calder, Konner Hauck, and James Buettner. Calder had a standout game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles and two RBIs. The Kats added runs in the third and fourth innings, including a sacrifice fly from Austin Deitz.
The Erie pitching staff was dominant, combining for a two-hit shutout. Nick Gold earned the win, throwing three no-hit innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Starter Aaron Knuutila pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one.
Erie racked up 10 hits and swiped seven bases in the game, with Lapierre and Calder each stealing multiple bags. Hauck and Buettner led the offense with multiple hits apiece.
In game 2, Josh Bluain stole the spotlight, blasting three home runs—including a grand slam—and driving in eight runs to power Erie to an 18-8 victory. Bluain homered twice in the second inning and again in the fifth, highlighting an 11-run second frame that erased an early 2-0 TC3 lead.
TC3 briefly jumped ahead in the top of the second with two runs, but Erie responded with a barrage of hits, including Bluain's grand slam and RBI knocks from across the lineup. The Kats added more in the third on a TC3 error and a sacrifice fly by Buettner. A five-run fifth sealed the deal, featuring another Bluain homer, an error, and a sacrifice fly from Calder.
Ethan Goodband earned the win, giving up four runs (three earned) over three innings with three strikeouts. Xavier Beckstead delivered 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Erie tallied 14 hits in the game, with Bluain and Hauck each collecting three. Lapierre and Jorden List also had multiple hits. Defensively, Erie turned one double play in the high-scoring affair.
The Kats are 25-21 as they head into the final weekend of the season when they will play a home and home series with Genesee Community College. They will host the Cougars on Saturday and travel on Sunday.
