Despite a late rally by Tompkins Community College, Erie held on for a 10-8 victory in the first game of the day. Tompkins closed a 5-run deficit in the final innings, scoring on a series of hits, including a home run, but the Kats were able to close out the win.
Erie jumped on the board first and collected 11 hits throughout the game. Noah Lapierre, Jorden List, Iyad Ansari, and Josh Bluain each had two hits in the contest, while List, Ansari, Calder, and Hauck each drove in two runs. The Kats also stole three bases, putting pressure on Tompkins CC defense.
Starting pitcher Austin Deitz went three and one-third innings for Erie, allowing 13 hits and eight runs but still earning the win. Despite the offensive onslaught, the Kats' defense was solid, committing no errors, with Calder leading the charge with seven defensive plays.
In the second game of the day, the Kats continued their offensive dominance, defeating the Panthers 7-3. The game was highlighted by a strong performance from Ansari, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a home run in the first inning, which drove in three runs.
Erie jumped to an early lead with a six-run outburst in the second inning. The rally was fueled by Ansari's two-run single and additional RBIs from multiple players. Hauck also played a key role, hitting a sacrifice fly in the eighth to help pad the Kats' lead.
Starting pitcher Adam Staniszewski earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing four hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out five. The Kats bullpen continued to shine, with Nick Gold coming in for relief and shutting down TC3's offense over four and two-thirds innings, surrendering just two hits and no runs.
The Kats' offense totaled 12 hits in the game, with Noah Lapierre, Josh Bluain, and Eric Calder all contributing multiple hits.
The two teams will go at it again when Erie hosts a double header on Sunday. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
