Erie baseball had trouble keeping up with Monroe Community College in their pair of games at North Campus on Friday.
Both teams had their bats working in the opening game Erie CC Kats couldn't quite get the job done dropping the contest 16-9. Monroe college collected 15 hits, while Erie had eight.
Monroe college jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after a single scored one run and a homerun scored two. A sacrifice fly extended the lead to 4-2 in the top of the third inning. Erie tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a walk by Jorden List, and a fielder's choice by Noah Lapierre. Monroe college flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-4.
Erie would come back to score five runs of their own on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lapierre homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Iyad Ansari homered to center field, scoring three runs but the comeback fell short.
Jaden Korpan started the game for Erie. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and nine runs (eight earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking one. #25 started the game for Monroe college. The hurler gave up six hits and seven runs (five earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking four.
Ansari provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Erie with three runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Number nine hitter, Lapierre, showed the depth of Erie's lineup, by leading them with two hits in four at bats.
Erie CC Kats had trouble keeping up with Monroe college in a 12-0 loss on Friday.
Monroe was able to keep their bats hot in the second game amassing 11 more hits while Erie managed only three in the 12-0 loss. Monroe college got on the board in the first inning after #22 homered to right field, scoring two runs.
Xavier Beckstead took the loss. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking four.
James Buettner, Austin Deitz, and Konner Hauck each collected one hit for Erie CC Kats.
The two teams are scheduled to play another pair of games on Saturday with first pitch at 12:00 pm.
