Erie stayed in it until the end but dropped the first game of their double header with Onondaga 4-3 on Thursday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the fifth when a singled, scored the winning run for the Lazers.
The Kats took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Onondaga committed an error, Adam Scibetta singled down the right field line, and Iyad Ansari hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Onondaga tied the game in the bottom of the fourth to set up the comeback.
Adam Staniszewski took the loss for Erie. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.
Scibetta, Jorden List, Austin Deitz, Ansari, Josh Bluain, Eric Calder, and Konner Hauck each collected one hit for the Kats. Scibetta and Ansari each drove in one run.
The Kats would return the favor, taking the second game 5-2. Erie opened the scoring in the first after Ansari singled, scoring one run. A triple in the bottom on the second gave Onondaga the lead, 2-1 before the Kats would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth.
Ethan Goodband earned the win. The hurler gave up six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking two. Aaron Knuutila tossed two innings of no-run ball for the Kats in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
John Callahan led Erie with two runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Ansari went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.
