Erie Community College baseball played host to SUNY Niagara and Onondaga Community College over the weekend, splitting the pair of double headers.
On Saturday the Thunderwolves visited North Campus winning game one 7-4 and the second game 10-4.
Adam Staniszewski opened the game, the pitcher gave up five hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Nick Gold took the loss for Erie. The pitcher went three innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out six and walking two. The Kats piled up nine hits in the game. Adam Scibetta and Konner Hauck each collected three hits while Jason Brostko and Eric Calder each drove in two runs.
Niagara was first to get on the board in the second game taking a 1-0 in the top of the first. Erie would respond in the bottom of the frame and take a 2-1 lead. Niagara flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-2. Erie would put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning but that was as close as they would get.
Aaron Knuutila opened the game for Erie CC Kats. The starting pitcher allowed 10 hits and seven runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three.
Erie would rebound on Sunday with a big over Onondaga 13-3 in the opening game and 14-4 in the second match-up.
After Onondaga opened they scoring, the Kats captured the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the first.
Ethan Goodband earned the win for Erie. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three.
Erie piled up 10 hits in the game. Iyad Ansari and Calder were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits while hitting back-to-back. Calder provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Erie with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day.
The momentum carried into the second game. The Kats got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Futo Kawamura singled down the left field line, and Zack Bedard doubled to center field, each scoring one run enroute to the win.
Xavier Beckstead earned the win for Erie. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and four runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out none and walking two. The Kats collected 14 hits in the game. Buettner, Ansari, Hauck, Josh Bluain and Zack Bedard each collected two hits. Jorden List, Bluain, and Hauck each drove in three runs.
The Kate are 16-18 on the season and will host a pair of games with Jamestown Community College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
