One day after dropping both games against Monroe Community College, the Kats returned the favor with two wins of their own.
James Buettner collected four hits in four at bats, as Erie defeated Monroe 12-5 in the opening game. Buettner hit a home run to left field in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
Monroe jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a home run to center field, scoring two runs. Erie tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a double by Josh Bluain, and a single by John Callahan.
Erie would take the lead for good in the top of the third on the Buettner home run to left field which scored two runs, to give the Kats the leg up, 5-3.
Ethan Goodband earned the win on the mound. The starter surrendered seven hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking two.
The second game saw Erie jump out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Eric Calder doubled, scoring two runs, and one run scored on a balk en route to a 10-6 win. The Kats scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Jason Brostko doubled, scoring one run, Callahan doubled, scoring one run, Calder singled, scoring one run, a steal of home scored one run, and a wild pitch scored one run. Buettner slammed his second homer of the day to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth.
Jaden Korpan earned the win. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and five runs over four innings, striking out four and walking none.
Calder drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Callahan and Calder each collected two hits. Calder and Konner Hauck each stole multiple bases as Erie had five stolen bases in the game.
Up next for the Kats is a pair of games against Jamestown Community College on Tuesday at North Campus.
