Erie Community College baseball hosted Hudson Valley on Saturday in the NJCAA Region III Sub-Regional series, sweeping the Vikings to advance in the playoffs.
With Adam Staniszewski on the mound in game one, the Kats shutout Hudson Valley 2-0. He pitched all nine innings, allowing one hit while striking out six. Austin Deitz and Grayson Giddings each drove in one for Erie.
Game two came down to the wire as the Kats would grab the victory in walk-off fashion, 14-11! The game was tied at 11 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Nathan Kinder homered to left field to score three runs. Erie collected 18 hits in the game with Giddings leading the team, going four for four and stealing two bases. Giddings and Colby Wilson were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs.
Starting on the mound, Ryan Lynch pitched six innings, surrendering 10 hits and six runs while striking out three. Ladislaus Landwehr tossed one and one-third innings of relief for Erie, allowing no runs while striking out two.
Up next, Erie will travel to Auburn, NY for the NJCAA Region III Championships starting Thursday, May 16th.
