The Erie baseball team played their first home games of the season, taking both from Tompkins Cortland Community College
Grayson Giddings drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Kats to a 16-1 win in game one. Erie put up 10 runs in the second with Giddings starting the enslaught when he was hit by a pitch, driving in one run. Jayden Ricks drew a walk scoring a run, Jacob Jones drew a walk, scoring one, Ronan Glassford hit a sacrifice fly, scoring a run, Shane Pray and Austin Deitz each walked to score a run each and the Giddings tripled, scoring three. This was after Erie had put up five in the bottom of the first inning!
Aaron Cabrera started the game for the Kats. The pitcher gave up two hits and one run over three innings. He struck out six and walked none. Ethan Mcilwaine and Reagan Rifanburg each came on in relief for Erie and shutdown Tompkins.
The Kats kept the scoring going in game two when they crossed the plate 20 times in the 20-5 victory. Tompkins opened the scoring in the top of the first but Erie took the lead in the bottom of the frame when Glassford homered to right, scoring two runs and and error scored another.
Erie again had a 10 run inning this time in the bottom of the second. Deitz homered to right to score two, Ladislaus Landwehr singled, Isaac Duva drew a walk, Glassford singled and Garett Wilson homored to center.
Mike Birkhimer led things off on the mound for Erie with the starter surrendering three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out four and walking four. Jake Molino appeared in relief for the Kats.
Erie is back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Tompkins Cortland for a double header.
