Erie Sweeps Cayuga to Advance in Playoffs

The Erie Community College baseball team swept Cayuga Community College on Saturday to continue their playoff run. Playing in the Region III Subregional, the Kats rallied in the in the opener to win 8-5 and then fought off a Cayuga rally in game two to win 10-5.
Nolan Evans was the winning pitcher for Erie. The southpaw went four and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking one. Ethan Stevens started the game for the Kats allowing five hits and four runs over four and a third innings, striking out five
Erie racked up ten hits in the game. Colby Wilson, Christain Pagano, and Andrew Nantau each managed multiple hits with Nantau, Pagano, and Wilson collecting two hits each.
Erie started game two by jumping out to a 3-0 lead but then allowed Cayuga to take 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Erie battled back in the bottom of the frame and pulled away for good putting up five runs. Christian Cabrera singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run, Tyler Kerl singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Carter Whitehead singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and D'Artagnan Van Dusen drew a walk, scoring one run.
Dylan Moorhouse earned the victory on the mound. Moorhouse surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out two. Connor Desiderio and Spencer Harford entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Erie moves on to the Region III final four and will travel to Aubrun, NY to face Niagara County Community Collegeon Friday, May 19th at 5:00 pm.
