WNYAC Recognizes Six Erie Baseball Players
Six members of the Erie Community College baseball team received recognition from the Western New York Athletic Conference for their play during the 2022 season. Center fielder Adam Rankie, shortstop Isaiah Salas and designated hitter Greg Hare were named First Team All-Conference. Pitchers Sam Calcaterra and Connor Desiderio along with right fielder Christian Cabrera received Second Team All-Conference recognition.
Erie had many players among the nation's statistical leaders. Rankie led all NJCAA Division III hitters with 99 hits and 90 runs. He was second in the country with 25 doubles and fourth with a .493 batting average.
Hare was the top run producer in the country with 83 RBI and his 13 home runs was tied for fifth. Desiderio finished the year 11-1 with a 3.93 ERA. He struck out 59 batters in 71 innings. His 11 wins tied for third in the country.
Salas was previously named the Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year. At the plate he hit .372 and was fifth in the region with 52 RBI. Cabrera hit .368 and was fourth in the region with 53 RBI. Calcaterra finished with his freshman campaign with an 8-3 record and a 3.55 ERA.
Erie finished the 2022 season with a 43-12-1 record. It marked the most wins in any spring in program history.
