Batavia, NY- Sophomore Adam Rankie drove a single to center field in the second game of the Kats double header with Genesee Commnity College to become the school's career hits leader. The hit was the 125th if his career, breaking the record set in the 2010-2011 season.
The Erie offense was firing for both games of their double header with GCC. The Kats defeated the Cougars 13-6 in game one while tallying 13 hits. Erie secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Adam Rankie, Christian Cabrera, Greg Hare, AJ Karosas, and Harold Torres, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Connor Desiderio was credited with the victory. The bulldog surrendered four runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Tyler Oudette threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Genesee would take an early lead in game two but the Kats bats turned it up for eight runs in the sixth inning enroute to a 11-1 win. A lead walk by Hare, a single by Carter Whitehead, Torres was hit by a pitch, an error on a ball put in play by Ethan Stevens, and a double by Rankie would have the Kats up by seven by the end of the inning.
Sam Calcaterra was credited with the win for Erie. The fireballer surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.
Erie and Genesee will play another double header on Saturday, April 16th at North Campus. First pitch is at 1:00 pm.
