Baseball Splits Weekend of Games in Maryland
The Erie Community College baseball team traveled to Baltimore for six games over the weekend. The Kats split each of the three series to go 3-3.
On Friday, Erie faced CCBC Catonsville, winning the first game 11-8 and dropping the second 4-1. In game one, the Kats put up 14 hits, led by Ethan Stevens, Carter Whitehead, Isaiah Salas, and Greg Hare, who all drove in runs. Connor Desiderio led Erie to victory on the mound. The fireballer lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out three and walking zero. Stevens and Tyler Kerl entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
In game two, Erie fell behind early and couldn't come back in the 4-1 loss. Ryan Moran took the loss, going four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking zero. Carter Whitehead, Isaiah Salas, AJ Karosas, and Adam Rankie each collected multiple hits. Whitehead went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.
The Erie bats would come out strong in the first game of Saturday's double header with Anne Arundel Community College. The team collected 21 hits on their way to a 20-4 victory. Adam Rankie bagged four hits in the game. Rankie singled in the first, homered in the third, singled in the fourth, and doubled in the fifth. Dylan Moorhouse earned the win. The hurler went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking one. Dylan Wojciechowski threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
It was not enough to out hitting Anne Arundel six to four, in the second game as the Kats fell 5-1. Ethan Stevens led the team with two hits in three at bats. Ethan Krakowski took the loss allowing four hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
Sunday's double header against CCBC Essex continued the weekend trend with Kats falling in game one 8-7 and winning game two 2-1.
It came down to the final play of the game when Essex homered in the bottom of the eighth inning to score two runs and earn the victory. The Erie bats were strong once again, putting up 11 hits in the contest. Isaiah Salas and Harold Torres all collected multiple hits with Salas going 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team. Ethan Stevens took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit and walked one.
Erie had their own late inning comeback to win the second game 2-1. The game was tied at one with the Kats batting in the top of the seventh when Christian Cabrera hit a solo homer and Erie held on for the win. Sam Calcaterra got the win with seven solid innings of work. He allowed four hits and one run while striking out nine.
The Kats will play two games at Cayuga Community College on Tuesday at 3:00 and 5:30pm.
