Baseball Plays to Another Split with Monroe
SUNY Erie Baseball and Monroe Community College split a pair of games on Tuesday at ECC North Campus. The Kats got out to an eight-run lead in the fifth inning and held on for a 9-8 victory in game one. Erie opened up scoring in the first inning, when Colin Fryling singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. They tallied four runs in the fifth inning driven by singles by Carter Arbuthnot and Arlain Sesin and a walk by AJ Karosas.
Spencer Harford got the win for the Kats. The fireballer went five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four. Isaiah Salas, Kyle Blunt, and Nolan Evans all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Salas recorded the last three outs to earn the save.
Erie tallied 12 hits in game one including two home runs. Cole Cote had a dinger in the second inning. Fryling had a four bagger in the third inning. Cote and Fryling all had multiple hits for the Kats with Cote leading the game with three hits in three at bats.
In the second game it was Erie that attempted the comback. The Kats fought back after falling down by five runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in an 11-9 defeat to Monroe. Erie tallied two home runs on the day. Arbuthnot had a dinger in the fourth inning. Sesin went yard in the seventh inning. Erie racked up 13 hits in game two with Arbuthnot, Sesin and Salas all managing multiple hits. Arbuthnot led the Kats with four hits in five at bats.
Billy Quinn took the loss. Quinn went four innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out five.
Erie will play again on Saturday when they head to Corning for two games at 12:00 and 2:30 pm.
