Since taking the helm of the decorated Erie Community College women's bowling team in 2002-03, Tom Ruggiero has guided the Kats to continued success on the national stage despite the growth of collegiate bowling programs in Western New York and across the country.

Ruggiero's teams have won seven (2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014) NJCAA National Championships and four (2003, 2004, 2005, 2009) Region 3 titles. In addition to the team titles, five individuals have won the All-Event Championship at the national tournament. Those winners are: Karen Syrocki (2004), Amanda Fogarty (2005), Kerri Meden (2008), Jessica Mamon (2009) and Gabrielle Damin (2014).
