Erie Swimming and Diving Begin 2023-24 Season
This past Saturday, Erie's Men's and Women's swim teams traveled to Monroe Community College to compete at the Monroe Fall Invite. Erie placed second in both competitions, marking its highest placing in over three years. Erie swimmers qualified for the NJCAA Championships in Florida which take place in March 2024 in fourteen events.
For the Erie women, Isabella DeMeo won the 200 free (2:23.66 NJCAA QT) and 50 breast (39.88 NJCAA QT) and finished second in the 100 back (1:18.59), Allyson Koedel placed second in the 50 free (35.21), third in the 50 fly (46.87) and fourth in the 50 breast (45.88).
For the ERIE men, Leo Wasch placed second in the 50 free (23.79 NJCAA QT), second in the 100 free (53.57 NJCAA QT) and fourth in the 50 breast (35.54 NJCAA QT). Stu Jensen placed third in the 100 IM (1:04.12 NJCAA QT), fourth in the 50 fly (29.08 NJCAA QT) and third in the 100 breast (1:13.58 NJCAA QT). Ryan Nebrich placed second in the 200 IM (2:20.52 NJCAA QT), third in the 100 fly (1:07.93) and second in the 500 free (5:36.79 NJCAA QT). Ayden Walker placed fourth in the 50 free (26.84 NJCAA QT), third in the 100 back (1:10.35) and seventh in the 50 breast (38.48 NJCAA QT). Nate Setlock placed fourth in the 200 free (2:25.44), seventh in the 50 fly (35.74) and fifth in the 500 free (6:53.94). Felipe Sabogal placed ninth in the 50 free (38.17) and seventh in the 100 free (1:20.56)
Both of ERIE'S relays qualified for the National Championships as well for the first time in over three years. The 200 medley relay finished third (1:59.18 NJCAA QT) comprised of Setlock, Jensen, Nebrich and Wasch and the 800 free relay finished third (8:44.34 NJCAA QT) with the quartet of Nebrich, Jensen, Wasch and Setlock.
ERIE will be hosting their next swim meet on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center starting at 6:00pm.
