Women's Soccer Improves to 3-1 on the Season.
Dryden, NY- The Erie Community College Women's Soccer Team improved their record to 3-1 on the season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Tompkins Cortland. Due to injuries and illness Erie came into the game short handed, but the 11 players they had battled a talented TPC team for all 90 minutes.
Jena Schelble scored her 6th goal of the year in the 42nd minute to put the Kats up by one just before half. The goal came from a ball into Schelble's feet from Peyton Martin who tallied her first assist of her career.
From there, Erie's defense stood strong and finished the game out without giving up a goal.
Goalkeeper Amber Grapb had 10 saves in her second shutout of the season.
Head Coach Kolby Banker said of the win, "Today was a great test to measure ourselves against some of the better talent in our region. Tompkins Cortland was terrific and for that I am thankful to get the 1-0 result. Coming into the game short-handed presented its challenges but I am extremely proud of the girls who played major minutes to get our team the result. Hopefully with seven days rest before our next trip we can get healthier and continue to improve. It was nice to see Ashley Melino out there for the first time in a few weeks, I'm excited about what she can bring to our team."
"Today was a tough game, we had to push for all 90 minutes and we did. We got the result we wanted and the away streak continues to 2-0 on the road. Each week we are improving. I am beyond proud of these girls." said Schelble of the game.
Maya O'Rourke added "It was a great team win. Great effort was shown in time of need and Jena pulled through with a goal to get us the win."
The Kats tare back in action on September 21st when they travel to Hudson Valley Community College for a 2:00 pm matchup.
