Erie Firing On All Cylinders Against Monroe College
After dropping a pair of games to Monroe Community College on Friday, Erie returned the favor sweeping the Saturday double header between the teams.
Erie took the first game 18-5. The Kats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Eric Calder was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, James Buettner singled, scoring one run, Iyad Ansari doubled, scoring one run, and Noah Lapierre singled, scoring two runs. The then scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. EJ Williams singled, scoring two runs, Lapierre drew a walk, scoring one run, and Konner Hauck tripled, scoring three runs. Erie added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Williams doubled to right field, and Jorden List singled down the left field line, each scoring one run and then scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. List doubled, scoring three runs, Jason Brostko singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.
Austin Deitz earned the win. The starter surrendered five hits and five runs over three and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Nick Gold pitched one and two-thirds innings of shutout ball for Erie CC Kats in relief. The reliever gave up two hits, striking out three and walking one.
Erie collected 11 hits in the game. List led the Kats with four runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day.
Zach Colon drove in four runs on three hits to lead Erie past Monroe College 12-2 in game two on Saturday. In the fourth inning, Colon hit a grand slam to left field.
The Kats won thanks in part to seven runs in the fourth inning. Brostko singled, scoring one run, Calder singled, scoring one run, Colon hit a grand slam to left field, and a passed ball scored one run. Erie collected 11 more hits in the game. Buettner and Lapierre each collected multiple hits
Nick Gold earned the win for Erie CC Kats. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
Up next, the Kats will go on the road and take on Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday for two games.
