Bauth Earns 1000th Coaching Win!
SUNY Erie Community College baseball took both games of their double header at Genesee Community College. The 14-1, game two, win gave Head Coach Joe Bauth his 1000th win.
Since 1991, Joe Bauth has developed and guided the Erie Community College baseball program into a regional and national power in NJCAA baseball. Consistently ranked in the NJCAA Division 3 poll, the Erie Kats have posted 23 winning seasons and have advanced to the Region 3 championship game 10 times.
"Congratulations to Coach Bauth on reaching 1000 wins. His commitment to excellence over the last 30 years has made Erie baseball a leading program in Region III and the NJCAA." said Erie Athletic Director Steve Mullen.
In his 30th season with Erie, Bauth ranks second in the country among active NJCAA Division 3 coaches in wins with a 990-598-4 record. He is a three-time ABCA Coach of the Year (1998, 2000 and 2003), a four-time NJCAA District Coach of the Year (1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005) and three-time Region 3 Coach of the Year (2005, 2006 and 2011). He also received the Louisville Slugger Award for Coaching Excellence in 1998, 2003 and 2011. He is a member of the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Under coach Bauth, Erie baseball has won the competitive Western New York Athletic Conference five times since 2003 and advanced to the NJCAA Division 3 Baseball World Series in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2011.
An astounding 76 players have earned All-Region recognition under Coach Bauth's tutelage, which includes 12 student-athletes that have been named NJCAA Division 3 All-Americans. Ten of Bauth's players have gone on to play professional baseball.
Bauth is a professor in the college's Health, Wellness and Physical Education Department and holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Canisius College. He is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association where he currently serves on the Executive Committee as President of the NJCAA Organizational Committee.
In game one, the Kats got their offense started in the first inning when Colin Fryling doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Erie racked up nine hits in the game with Fryling and Arlain Sesin each having multiple hits. Fryling was 3 of 4 with 2 RBi and a run scored.
Nolan Evans was on the rubber for Erie. The ace went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Fryling continued racking up the RBI in game two, driving in four runs on three hits to lead Erie to the 14-1 victory. He drove in runs on a double in the Kats nine run fourth inning and he added a homerun in the fifth.
Batters contributing to the big inning included AJ Karosas, Adam Rankie, Arlain Sesin, Greg Hare, Fryling, and Isaiah Salas, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Connor Desiderio led things off on the mound for Erie. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero.
The two wins bring the Kats record to 10-10 on the season. They will take the field again on Monday, April 19thwhen they host the same Genesee Community College team at North Campus.
